07 Sep Xsection: Placemaking
Placemaking is a multifaceted approach to planning, design and management of public spaces. It involves looking at, listening to and asking questions of the people who live, work and play in a particular space, to discover their needs and aspirations.
Xsection combines the thoughts of students, academics and practicing landscape architects via articles and interviews. Den Aitken, Natural Habitats Landscape Architect, contributed to the third issue of xsection in the following interview:
Where or what is your first memory of place?
My first sense of place, like most kiwis, is my hometown. Leigh is a small fishing village a little over an hour north east of Auckland’s CBD and though different today, growing up in the early eighties it was a great playground.
