Back to Our Roots

30 Years on and still growing strong...

Back in 1978 a young kiwi bloke with a green thumb and a vision of grand gardens bought a contractor’s barrow, a sturdy pair of gumboots and strong spade - and so began Natural Habitats. This fellow was Graham Cleary, director and owner of Natural Habitats.

Not afraid to get his hands dirty, Graham rolled up his sleeves and grew Natural Habitats into one of the largest vertically integrated landscape design, construction and specialist garden maintenance companies in the South Pacific.

Today Natural Habitats has over 70 dedicated gardeners and craftsmen, with local offices across the country. Teams of experienced horticulturists, arborists, landscape architects, landscapers and environmentalists continue to cultivate Natural Habitats’ passion for gardening and commitment to delivering quality landscapes to be lived in and enjoyed.

Our staff build careers with us. Most of the senior management and many of our people have grown with us for over 20 years.  This gives the company deep roots – such an invaluable resource of practical knowledge and experience in planning, implementation and nurturing of landscapes cannot be easily assembled or acquired.

Natural Habitats has successfully weathered the various economic crises caused by too many people believing that money grows on trees, and fully intends to continue flourishing, bringing joy to generations of clients for many for years to come.
