Design-Build
Takapuna, Auckland
A key objective for the design was to create a landscape that acted in partnership with the home - create a sense of welcomed arrival. ‘Borrowing’ from the Council verge, and planting it with a consistent flow of grasses creates the illusion of a much larger garden frontage.
The palette of colour and texture has been deliberately controlled and contrasted to accentuate hard and soft elements Designed with minimalist sensibilities, this new garden now better reflects and re-creates its harbour side setting. What was an awkward, small space is now a generous, balanced, contained garden courtyard that warmly greets visitors. Altogether more grand.
"Situated in a harbourside suburb known for its coastal shell banks, this garden’s response to its environment is its foremost design feature. Simplicity and boldness make this an outstanding design."
Judge, Landscaping Awards
"We are delighted with our front garden. The overall appearance when combined with the planting can be summed up by the word ‘natural.’ The front gates make a strong statement and we regard them as our piece of external artwork. Most importantly for us the garden is also very low maintenance."
