Design-Build-Care
Hillsborough, Auckland
This 14ha Park which includes the Moore Homestead contains outstanding established grounds with notable trees, architecture and the historic Pah Homestead (a category A heritage building) is an important heritage landscape in Auckland’s urban fabric and has recently been enhanced to become a public park.
Natural Habitats (commissioned by Urban Solutions) adopted the master plan developed by Council and assisted in developing Monte Cecilia Park to become a city wide destination. We worked closely with council to ensure that their vision was carried right through into the details.
Our scope of works included reinstatement of original garden paths and development of the perimeter path network that connects the park entrances to the homestead, including reinstatement of the historic carriage drive and improvements to the Mt Albert, Korma and Herd Road entrances, which featuredetailed stonework.
As well as upgrading the areas immediately surrounding the homestead, including the restoration of the homestead gardens and terraces around the homestead
Our teams were able to provide valuable horticultural expertise and played a key role in the development of a planting scheme. They merged traditional shrubbery of original homestead with areas of native planting, thereby re-establishing the cultural connections within the site, which contains a pre-European Maori site named Whataroa.

“I would like to reinforce Phil’s (Project Manager) praise to (the Natural Habitats) team for their dedication and quality workmanship in trying conditions, the park has received a lot of positive feedback lately and credit is due to the Natural Habitats and Urban Solutions team for leaving a great legacy for Auckland."
